Thai Fingerroot Root Essential Oil

Fingerroot is a kind of ginger, Zingiberaceae family. It has a tapering shape brown or orange, brown color but inside it’s yellow and have a pleasant smell, give a hot, spicy and a bitter taste. It is considered both a medicinal and a culinary herb, with various valuable properties.
Fingerroot contains many essential oil which is the base for various aromas and other compounds which are important for use as medicines and food supplements. The major components of the essential oil of Fingerroot from rhizomes were 1-8-cineol, camphor, d-borneol, methyl cinnamate and found in lower amounts of d-pinene, zingi-berene, zingiberone, curcumin and zedoarin. Fingerroot Essential oil has high inhibitory activity against B.cereus, L.monocytogenes and S. Aureus. The extract inhibits the spoilage bacteria such as L.cellobiosus and L.plantarum. It also possess antimicrobial activities against Staphylococcus strains. It have potential to use as a natural preservative against lipid oxidation and microorganisms in food products , in particular high fat and low water activity (aw) in meat products such as sausages in order to extend the shelf-life.
