Bicowhite® Complex stands out for its innovative delivery system that transports five active ingredients simultaneously to targeted skin layers using Bicosome® Technology. This system features a dual structure composed of an outer lipidic vesicle and internal Smart Disks that encapsulate all five key actives. Each ingredient targets a specific stage of the melanin-production process:
-
Potassium Azeloyl Diglycinate – inhibits melanin synthesis
-
3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid – prevents oxidation and darkening of existing pigment
-
Niacinamide – prevents the transfer of melanin to skin cells
-
Bisabolol – reduces inflammation that can trigger excess pigmentation
-
Phytic Acid – promotes skin cell renewal
In vitro studies show that Bicowhite® Complex reduces pigmentation by up to 32% within 4 days, while maintaining better skin structure compared to Kojic Acid.
Ex vivo testing on UV-exposed skin demonstrated a 154% reduction in pigmentation after 10 days, confirming its effectiveness even under strong sunlight conditions.
The product has passed safety evaluations, including non-irritant and non-phototoxic tests, and is certified Vegan, Non-GMO, and China NMPA Compliant.
Recommended usage level: 1–3% in all types of skincare formulations.
Mechanism of action
Research Study by BICOSOME, S.L.
Clinical Study on Pigmentation Reduction and Skin Brightening
(In Vivo Clinical Study – Melanin Index Reduction)
Method:
A study was conducted on 20 female volunteers aged 35–65 over a period of 56 days.
Participants applied a gel containing 3% Bicowhite® Complex twice daily (morning and evening) on the face.
The study took place during the summer season with strong sunlight exposure.
Evaluations were performed using multiple instruments, including:
-
Mexameter® MX 18 (for Melanin Index)
-
Spectrophotometer CM-700d (for brightness and radiance)
-
Clinical assessments by expert evaluators
Results:
1. Melanin Index:
-
Day 0: Melanin Index = 88 (difference between dark spots and normal skin)
-
Day 56: Melanin Index = 64
Reduction: 26% (p = 0.00006)
2. Lightness (L) – Skin Brightness:
-
Hyperpigmented areas: increased by 2.5%
-
Normal skin areas: increased by 0.6%
3. Number of Spots – Dark Spot Count:
-
Day 28: decreased by 5% (p = 0.025)
-
Day 56: decreased by 12% (p = 0.002)
Summary of the Study:
Bicowhite® Complex demonstrated outstanding efficacy in brightening and evening out skin tone. It reduced the Melanin Index by 26%, decreased the darkness of hyperpigmented spots by 34%, improved overall skin uniformity by 35%, and reduced the number of dark spots by 12% within 56 days. Notably, the study was conducted during the summer under strong sunlight, yet the results remained excellent, confirming that Bicowhite® Complex can be used safely all year round without causing photosensitivity.
Additionally, the study found reductions in fine lines and wrinkles, highlighting its multi-benefit performance. Self-assessments from volunteers aligned with both clinical evaluations and instrumental measurements, confirming clear, visible, and highly satisfactory results. This makes Bicowhite® Complex ideal for developing high-performance and safe skin-brightening products.
Research Study
A study conducted by the Department of Dermatology, University of Barcelona investigated the use of a multi-ingredient approach for reducing dark spots and melasma, focusing on inhibiting multiple stages of the melanogenesis pathway. The research demonstrated that combining ingredients that act on different mechanisms of melanin formation—such as tyrosinase inhibition, prevention of melanin transfer, and protection against oxidation—provides superior results compared to using a single active ingredient at a high concentration, with significantly lower irritation and better safety.
The study also found that liposomal and vesicular delivery systems enhance the penetration of active ingredients into targeted skin layers more effectively than non-encapsulated actives. Clinical evaluations showed that subjects using formulations containing multiple actives delivered through advanced delivery systems experienced a significant reduction in dark spots and melasma, along with noticeable improvements in skin tone uniformity and overall brightness, without irritation or serious adverse effects.
