Rice Fermented Extract BG stands out with its production process using premium Japanese rice, fermented by a traditional sake-making method. It is then filtered and alcohol is removed, leaving only a pure extract rich in sugars, glucose, amino acids, vitamins, and minerals from fermented rice. These components work synergistically to nourish the skin, featuring prebiotic properties that support beneficial skin microbiota and help maintain a healthy skin balance. It provides deep hydration, helps reduce dullness, and restores dry and rough skin. With a pH of 4.0–6.0, close to the skin’s natural pH level, it is gentle and suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin.
Properties and Mechanism of Action
Active Ingredient: Rice Ferment Filtrate (Sake) – Extract from fermented rice
Chemical Composition:
Rice Ferment Filtrate is a liquid derived from the fermentation of Japanese rice (Oryza sativa) using yeast through an alcohol fermentation process, similar to sake production. It is then filtered and the alcohol is removed, leaving a pure extract that contains:
-
Sugars and glucose (Total Sugar: 0.8–1.2%)
-
Various amino acids
-
B-complex vitamins (B1, B2, B6)
-
Organic acids
-
Minerals and enzymes generated during fermentation
Mechanism of Action:
Moisturizing
Sugars and amino acids in Rice Ferment Filtrate act as Natural Moisturizing Factors (NMF), helping attract moisture from the air and retain hydration within the skin layers. This keeps the skin plump, hydrated, and radiant.
Brightening
Organic acids and fermentation enzymes help remove accumulated dead skin cells on the surface, promoting cell turnover. This results in a brighter complexion, reduced dullness, and a more even skin tone.
Prebiotech Property
The extract is rich in sugars and nutrients that serve as food for beneficial skin microbiota. It supports the growth of good bacteria on the skin, helping maintain microbiome balance, strengthen the skin barrier, and reduce irritation and inflammation.
Anti-inflammatory
B-complex vitamins and amino acids help soothe the skin, reducing redness and inflammation. It is especially suitable for irritated or sensitive skin.
Improvement of Rough Skin
Nutrients from fermented rice help restore and nourish dry, rough skin by enhancing hydration and elasticity, leaving the skin smooth and soft to the touch.
Benefits:
-
Deeply hydrates and moisturizes the skin
-
Brightens and evens skin tone
-
Strengthens the skin barrier
-
Reduces inflammation and irritation
-
Restores rough and dry skin to smoothness
-
Suitable for all skincare formulations, especially toners, essences, serums, and lotions
Research Study from the Manufacturer — KOKEN CO., LTD.
Evaluation of Prebiotech Properties and the Promotion of Beneficial Skin Microbiota
Methodology:
The effect of Rice Ferment Filtrate on the growth of beneficial skin bacteria was tested by culturing Staphylococcus epidermidis (a beneficial bacterium commonly found on healthy skin) in growth media containing Rice Ferment Filtrate at concentrations of 1%, 3%, and 5%, and compared with a control group without the extract. After 24 hours of incubation, the number of grown bacterial colonies (CFU – Colony Forming Units) was counted to evaluate the growth-promoting effect.
Experimental Results:
-
Control group (no extract): 2.5 × 10⁶ CFU/mL
-
Rice Ferment Filtrate 1%: 3.8 × 10⁶ CFU/mL (52% increase)
-
Rice Ferment Filtrate 3%: 4.9 × 10⁶ CFU/mL (96% increase)
-
Rice Ferment Filtrate 5%: 5.6 × 10⁶ CFU/mL (124% increase)
Conclusion:
Rice Ferment Filtrate demonstrated clear Prebiotech properties by promoting the growth of beneficial skin bacteria. At a concentration of 5%, it increased the amount of beneficial bacteria by more than twofold. These results confirm that the natural sugars and nutrients in the fermented rice extract serve as a food source for beneficial microorganisms on the skin, supporting a balanced Skin Microbiome. This contributes to strengthening the skin barrier and reducing the risk of inflammatory skin conditions. Therefore, Rice Ferment Filtrate is highly suitable for developing skincare products focused on holistic and sustainable skin health.
Research Findings
A study conducted by the Department of Applied Biological Chemistry, University of Tokyo investigated the properties of Rice Ferment Extract and found that it helps improve overall skin condition. The research demonstrated that this extract is rich in free amino acids and sugars produced during the fermentation process, which can enhance skin hydration and strengthen the skin barrier function.
Additionally, Rice Ferment Extract was found to promote the growth of beneficial skin bacteria, showing a prebiotic effect that helps maintain a balanced skin microbiome and reduces the risk of skin inflammation. The study also revealed that the B-complex vitamins present in the extract help protect the skin from oxidative stress and reduce the appearance of premature aging and wrinkles.
