Vetiver is grass and roots high contain essential oils. Vetiver essential oil has been shown to contain more than 100 compounds, mainly sesquiterpenes and their derivatives. Among these, the major active constituents identified are khusimol, khusimene, α-vetivone , β-vetivone and β-vetivenene. Vetiver roots normally give an yield of about 0.3 to 2% essential oil on fresh root weight basis.
